Learning From The Best …
From your Post, I again assume that your position is that the Stronghold of sin and the root of sin is still in us …even though we are the New Creation in Christ. That is to say, the Redemptive Work of Christ on the Cross did not dealt with the power of sin because this power of sin is still in us.
The reason why I stress so much on the Redemptive Work of Christ on the Cross is because this is the very foundation of our Christian Faith. Right Beliefs will result in Right Living; but if our Belief is Wrong then the way we live will not be Right.
Most of Apostle Paul’s letters can be divide under two sections. The first section is Theology and the second section is Practice. Under the first section, Paul talked about the Redemptive Work of Christ on the Cross. In the book of Romans, Paul took great pain, to teach and to explain about the Gospel of Christ. Sin came through one Man, Adam and thus all have sinned. But through the 2nd Adam Christ, we are made righteous. Our righteousness is in Christ, it is what Christ has done on the Cross that we are made righteous. Having established what Christ has done on the Cross and who we are in Christ, Paul went on to talk about how this “New Creation” should be living. As Christians, we became People of the Kingdom and we should be living a life that is different from that of the World. We should no longer be living according to the “Flesh” but according to the Spirit.
You have asked about the role of the Holy Spirit … I believe one of the chief role of the Holy Spirit is to reveal Christ to us. The Holy Spirit is revealing to us “The Redemptive Work of Christ On The Cross”, He is revealing to us “Our Rich Inheritance In Christ”, He is revealing to us “the Amazing Grace & the Abundant Love of Christ”… Christ is the Answer to all our Questions.
Now, let me answer your question on “the flesh”, on “Sinful Nature” – Rom 8, Gal 5. You have made an assumption that the “Flesh” is the “Sinful Nature”. Where do you find in Scripture that says the “Flesh” is the “Sinful Nature” ? In fact Rom 8:1 says “There is therefore no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the “Flesh”, but according to the Spirit”. Those who are “In Christ” do not walk according to the “Flesh” but according to the Spirit. To walk according to the “Flesh” is to walk in the ways of the World. Paul told the Christians in Rome, “Don’t live according to the Flesh because they are “In Christ”, They are to live in the Spirit.
vs 8 ” So then, those who are in the “Flesh” cannot please God”
vs 9 ” But you are not in the “Flesh” but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His”. So as believers of Christ, are we living in the “Flesh” or are we living in the Spirit ? When we read further, Romans 8 tells us of our rich inheritance in Christ, when we walk according to the Spirit and not according to the “Flesh”.
Now to answer your other question, “Do I sin?” Before I give you the answer, I like to correct another assumption that Christians have – Christian ‘Sin’ because they still have the “Sinful Nature” in them. I would like to challenge this assumption. The Redemptive Work of Christ on the Cross has dealt with the Sinful Nature.
The Sinful Nature is not the Flesh. The Sinful Nature is what we have when we are “In Adam”. “In Adam” , we inherited the Sinful Nature. When we are “In Adam”, we sin because of the power of this Sinful Nature … we have no control. But the work of Christ on the Cross not only dealt with the Penalty of Sin but the Power of Sin. For those who believes in Christ, we are being transferred from the Kingdom of Darkness into the Kingdom of Light. We moved from being “In Adam” to being “In Christ”. When we are “In Adam”, we have the sinful nature, but when we are “In Christ”, the sinful nature does not exist.
The next question you asked is “if Christian do not have the sinful nature, Do Christian sin?” “Do I sin?”
We must remember that even as Christians, we are still in the world and we are still in the flesh. We still possess Free Will. There are choices to be made.
Christian sin because they chose to sin not because they have to sin. (Christian no longer have a sinful nature). Do I sin? Yes … but I am sinning less and less. I am living according to the Spirit and not living according to the flesh. The Holy Spirit is revealing to me more and more of God’s Grace and Favor. He is revealing to me the Finished Work of Christ and my rich inheritance in Christ. I am ‘Resting’ in the Finished Work of Christ. I am not “Striving” to be holy because I am holy in Christ; I am made “Righteous” in Christ. I am no longer Sin Conscious because I am Christ Focus. I do not fight “For” Victory but “From” Victory. Victory has already been won by Christ at the Cross.
You said, “You are suppose to have total and complete victory over the power of sin”. The Answer is : “It is not me but it is Christ – the Finished Work Of Christ On The Cross”. “For sin shall not have dominion over you because you are not under Law but under Grace”. In Christ we have total and complete victory over the power of sin … the Adamic Nature no longer exist when we are “In Christ”.
Our Beliefs must be derived from Scripture and not use Scripture to support our ideas and beliefs.
The Holy Spirit will guide us into all Truths and knowing the Truths will set us free. Signing off. Shalom.

God gave two leaders, Loren Cunningham (Founder of YWAM) and Bill Bright (Campus Crusade) a similar message that they were to tell each other when they meet.
This similar message which God gave to them separately is this (paraphrased) :To transform the Nations and to Impact the World, Christians need to “Influence” the 7 Mind-Molders that shape Society and Culture. These 7 Mind-molders or Spheres that shape the Destiny of Nations are – Religions, Education, Family, Arts & Entertainment, Media, Government , Business.
Christians are to be at the Top of these Spheres so as to exert Godly Values in the Society that we lives in … sad to say, over the years Christians have abdicated their responsibilities and retreated to the Religious Mountain. The decay of Societies is seen because of Christian’s failure to be the ‘Salt’ of the earth.
Lance Wallnau, is one of the Marketplace Leader who popularize and championed this 7 Mountains Mandate. The Challenge is for Kingdom Believers to re-establish God’s Reign and God’s Rule over these 7 Spheres of Influence that shapes our Society and our Nation.
